About IAF
IAF is the public identity of the Independent American Federation, an initiative of A Common America. We want independent representation to have a clear, recognizable meaning—and we want Americans who care about that idea to have a place to follow its development.
Our purpose
We believe representative government should begin with the people who live in a state or district. The national parties do not always make that relationship easy to see. Rather than asking everyone to settle on the same issues, IAF is developing a common ethical commitment that future independent candidates can make to their own constituents.
Open to adult American citizens
This is not a club for one generation, ideology, or voting history. If you're an adult U.S. citizen who is eligible to vote and believes public service should be accountable to the people back home, you're welcome to learn more. You do not have to change your party registration to join our updates.
Our relationship with A Common America
A Common America is the existing federally registered independent expenditure-only political committee behind this initiative. IAF is a public-facing name and program, not a separately registered political party or candidate campaign. ACA does not make contributions directly to candidates through this website. No candidate is being certified or promoted as IAF-affiliated here at launch.
What comes next
First, we are publishing the idea and building a community of interested Americans. Then we will continue developing the standards, disclosures, and processes that make the IAF commitment meaningful. Our email list is the easiest way to stay informed.
