A new standard for independent representation

Allegiance to people. Not parties.

Washington has no shortage of political parties. What it needs are more representatives whose first responsibility is to the people who sent them there. IAF is building a recognizable commitment to that kind of public service—and a place for Americans who believe it can work.

Independent should mean something.

A candidate can put “independent” beside their name. What matters is what they promise to do after Election Day—and whether people can hold them to it. IAF is developing a public-service standard that makes that promise understandable.

People first.

A representative's priorities should begin with the concerns of their state or district, not a national party agenda.

An ethical campaign.

Our proposed candidate commitment rejects PAC, corporate, and concealed-source campaign funding and limits individual contributions to eligible residents of the candidate's state.

Work with anyone.

Representatives should be free to collaborate on problems their constituents actually share, regardless of the other person's party affiliation.

Explore the full commitment

Not another party. A common promise.

IAF is not asking Americans to agree on every issue. We are not forming a third party, and we do not ask you to change your voter registration. We are establishing a recognizable commitment to independent public service—a commitment future candidates can choose to make and voters can evaluate.

Imagine representation that starts back home.

Imagine sending someone to Congress who comes with one clear allegiance: the people of their state or district. Someone willing to sit down with any other representative when their communities share a problem. We cannot promise that one candidate can fix Washington. We can build a standard that makes the promise of independent representation clearer—and more accountable.

This is just the beginning.

We're building the Independent American Federation and want you to know what comes next. Join our email list for occasional updates about the commitment, the movement, and future ways to take part.
